BOW Volunteer
Support BOW through events, programs, outreach, administrative assistance, special projects, donation drives, and other approved opportunities.

Make a deeper commitment to supporting girls and young women participating in PURPLE Girls through approved mentorship activities and program experiences. PURPLE Mentors complete additional screening, onboarding, training, and youth-program requirements before being approved.

Your Time Can Move the Mission Forward.
BOW volunteers help strengthen the organization's ability to provide programs, events, outreach, education, and community initiatives. You don't have to be an expert in domestic violence to volunteer. You simply need to be willing to serve within the responsibilities, boundaries, policies, and expectations of your approved role.
Ways to Volunteer
Events & Special Projects
Registration, setup, breakdown, guest assistance, hospitality, seating, vendor support, program materials, and approved event assignments.
Community Outreach
Resource distribution, awareness activities, community events, donation drives, and approved outreach initiatives.
Program Support
Preparing materials, organizing supplies, supporting activities, participant check-in, and other non-clinical program assistance.
Administrative Support
Data entry, filing, mailings, organizing materials, communications assistance, research, and approved office projects.
Marketing & Creative Support
Photography, videography, graphic design, social-media assistance, writing, or other communications support when approved.
Professional Skills
Individuals may offer expertise in areas such as education, finance, career development, business, wellness, legal education, technology, or another professional field.
Donation & Supply Support
Helping organize approved collection drives, sort donations, prepare participant materials, or support the BOW Community Wish List.
Event Volunteers
Need a Flexible Way to Serve?
Event volunteering can be a great option for supporters who cannot make a long-term commitment. BOW may recruit volunteers for activities such as the Purple Passion Luncheon, PURPLE Girls experiences, workshops, outreach events, fundraising initiatives, community activities, and other special events. Event assignments vary according to need and may require orientation or role-specific instructions before the event.

PURPLE Girls mentors support BOW's commitment to helping girls and young women develop confidence, life skills, leadership, healthy relationships, personal responsibility, and a stronger vision for their futures.
"Mentorship Is a Commitment, Not Just a Volunteer Assignment."
A mentor's job isn't to have every answer. It's to show up consistently, listen, encourage, model healthy behavior, respect boundaries, support growth, and help a young woman recognize what's possible.
What PURPLE Mentors Do
Depending on the program level and assigned role, approved mentors may participate in mentorship sessions, H.E.R. Circles, workshops, leadership activities, enrichment experiences, community service, educational or career exposure, special events, goal-setting activities, and other approved PURPLE Girls experiences.
Mentors support development without taking over. They are not expected to function as a participant's parent, therapist, case manager, financial provider, or disciplinarian.
What We Look For
Presence Matters More Than Perfection.
Mentors should also be willing and able to follow BOW's youth-protection, privacy, communication, documentation, safety, and program policies.
Mentor Screening & Approval
Protecting Young People Requires More Than Good Intentions.
Prospective PURPLE Mentors must complete BOW's required screening and approval process before serving in a mentorship role.
Mentor Application
Tell us about yourself, your experience, interests, availability, and reasons for wanting to mentor.
Initial Review
BOW reviews the application for completeness and basic program requirements.
Interview
Selected applicants participate in a mentor interview.
References & Screening
Applicants complete required reference checks and applicable background/safety screening.
Training & Orientation
Approved candidates complete required BOW and PURPLE Girls training before mentoring participants.
Final Approval & Placement
Completion of the process does not automatically guarantee mentor placement. BOW makes final approval and matching/placement decisions based on program requirements and participant needs.
Mentor Training
Good Mentors Need Good Preparation.
Training should prepare mentors for the realities of working with youth within BOW's program—not just give them a handbook to sign.
Mentor Boundaries
Connection With Structure.
Mentors operate within BOW's approved mentorship model. Mentors should not independently create relationships with participants outside program experiences, contact participants through unapproved channels, share personal contact information without authorization, or take on roles that fall outside their approved scope.
BOW's policies exist to protect participants, mentors, and the integrity of the program.
